For Chris, Nik & The Nice Guys was a great training ground (for real touring experience & music business). He is the first to admit that the band looks better on paper than it sounded. A band with a horn section and back up singers sees a lot of personel come and go. When ever there is a lot of change, it's hard for a band to be super tight. Chris always played his best regardless what went on around him. This band is proof of what an amazing manager can do!!! Mountains of videos of this band are all over the place. Some bad outfits and even worse haircuts..

This led to a development deal with Curb Records. It never panned out to anything. This is the only time in Chris' career that he was 'canned' from a band (Due to lack of backup vocals-isn't that entertaining that now Chris vocally fronts his own band). Ouch!! Guess u can't blame them. This band opened for many popular country acts including: John Michael Montgomery, Tracey Bird, Charlie Daniels Band, Niel McCoy, Dixianna.
